Background…

In 1964 the Muslim Brotherhood Society, a major charitable organisation in the Cape, invited Hoosein Kotwal to be the guest speaker at the Green Point Track on the occasion of Mauludun-Nabi celebrations. On this occasion he reflected on the needs of the community, particularly the basic Islāmic Education of the children. He expressed the need for an organisation of specialists in various fields of endeavour who could provide the facilities and ideological equipment to implement programmes for community change.
The 1967 Hoosein Kotwal’s sincere efforts bore fruit – he had managed to gather his team of workers – men and women to deliver the goods – the Muslim Assembly (Cape) became a reality. At an auspicious and memorable occasion in the Cape Town City Hall, Dr I.H. Qureshi, Vice Chancellor of the University of Karachi, congratulated the Muslim Assembly (Cape) on its launch and reminded each and everyone involved in the affairs of people: “There is no finality in the affairs of humanity.”

The Inauguration

On Friday 7th July 1967 in the City Hall, Cape Town, the Muslim Assembly (Cape) was inaugurated in the presence of a distinguished guest, Dr. Ishtiaq Hussain Qureshi, Vice-Chancellor of the University of Karachi (Pakistan). On this occasion members of the Muslim Assembly were inducted in a very solemn and moving ceremony. Dr. Qureshi administered the Oath, which they affirmed in unison. Dr Qureshi advised the enthusiastic members and, indeed, everyone else, to observe a wise saying “There is no finality in the affairs of humanity.”
